The town receives this name because it is at a crossroads of old roads that crossed the island (Royal Way of Muro, Cam\u00ed de Palma, Cam\u00ed de S\u00f3ller, Cam\u00ed de Sant Jordi) and it was in front of the parish where they converged. The current building, in Baroque style, is built on top of an old hermitage from the 13th century. In 1987, Pere Rossell\u00f3 i Far donated the house to Santa Maria City Council. Currently, the building, remodeled, houses the Municipal Library and the Residence for the Elderly. Its facade, unique in the urban center, stands out for the inlays of black basalt stones and a large cross, also of black stones, which was used during the Stations of the Cross in Lent. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe convent of the Minim friars, founded in 1682 and blessed in 1683, has a square cloister surrounded by columns supporting lowered arches. It preserves two old cisterns and a third newly built one. The baroque-style church has a thin arched portal, a small rose window in the apse and the coat of arms of the Conrado family. Inside there are ten chapels. The current construction dates from 1940 and belongs to the Pisa Torrelletes family. The facade is plastered and has sgraffito imitating limestone. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Santa Maria railway station was inaugurated on February 25, 1875. The building follows the same model as the Binissalem station. Its cobbled facade is highlighted by cornices, edges and openings. From this station was born the Santa Maria-Felanitx line, which connected the center and the south of the island, which was finally closed by FEVE in 1967. You can still see the location of the old road and the bridge over which he headed towards Santa Eug\u00e8nia. The Mallorca Railway Services company ceded the use of this building to the Santa Maria Town Council.
