Valley of
Coanegra
Coanegra is a district and valley of our municipality. The valley runs from northwest to southeast and is cut by the Torrent de Coanegra. At the bottom of the valley there is a strip of cultivated land made up of dry crops and small orchards irrigated by the Síquia de Coanegra. Within the valley there are three important natural cavities: es Bufador de Son Berenguer, l’Avenc de Can Millo and l’Avenc de Son Pou.
The etymology of the place name is of pre-Arabic Romanesque origin from cave, with loss of the intervocalic v, and black.
The coanegra valley is an easily accessible, unique and indispensable place for those who want to know more about the history and heritage of Santa Maria.
